Bruce Arians Takes Shot at Patriots Coach Bill Belichick

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has received multiple shots these days. Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians is the latest to call out Belichick.

Arians added fuel to the fire this week. He spoke about his work with veteran quarterback Tom Brady, and even compared himself to the Patriots head coach.

“Consummate leader. Has been all year. Got the air of confidence that permeates through our team every day. I allow him to be himself. Like, New England didn’t allow him to coach. I allow him to coach. I just sit back sometimes and watch.”

Bruce Arians to shade Belichick

Was this an attempt to shade Belichick? Maybe Arians wasn’t aware of the impact his words would have on the rest of the NFL.

Former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski made a difference between Belichick and Arians. Freedom. That’s the main difference. “The freedom of just being yourself with the coaches.”

Darren Hartwell of Yahoo! Sports shared his thoughts on the situation.

“According to Arians, that’s thanks in part to his hands-off approach, which differs from Belichick’s intense attention to detail as he coaches up every player from Brady to the long snapper. Arians’ observation isn’t entirely accurate, though: While Belichick established ‘The Patriot Way,’ Brady played a huge role in making his teammates better by holding them accountable and getting everyone on the same page. And considering Belichick and Brady won six Super Bowls together, it’s hard to criticize the setup in New England. But if Brady was looking for a fresh start with a head coach who lets him do whatever he wants, he certainly picked the right boss in Arians, whose coaching style apparently is perfect for another ex-Patriot in Rob Gronkowski.”

Coaches get to find the right way to connect with players. Brady is a successful leader, and NFL coaches should take advantage of that. Arians confused a lot of people, but he made a good point for his Bucs fans. Brady and Belichick won six Super Bowls together. This success confirms the fact that they did things right. Arians gave Brady more freedom, and this may be his way of doing things. Belichick has his own coaching criteria and that’s what makes him the best coach in the NFL.
