Cam Newton Most Likely Landing Spot if he Leaves The Patriots

NFL experts have made several predictions on veteran quarterback Cam Newton and his next landing spot. ESPN analyst Adam Schefter made a prediction on the next destination of the 2015 NFL MVP. He went on The Greg Hill Show to talk about the topic, and Schefter predicted that Newton will probably join the Washington Football Team if he leaves the Patriots in the offseason. His contract will go between $40 and $50 million.

“The most natural spot for Cam Newton would be Washington if he’s going to leave New England. I am going to guess, two years with incentives, $40-50 million.”

Washington head coach Ron Rivera would gladly reunite with his former quarterback. They spent some time together with the Carolina Panthers. Washington has to address the quarterback situation. Alex Smith will probably enter free agency in the upcoming offseason. Dwayne Haskins has already shown interest in leaving the team before end of the 2020 NFL season.

Schefter’s prediction might be too bold. Newton signed a one-year deal with the Patriots and got $1.05 million. He added more money to his salary at the end of the season because he met some of the incentives throughout the regular season.

Cam Newton to join a familiar name in his next landing spot

Newton didn’t have an impressive season and the Patriots roster had too many injured players. The veteran joined a depleted lineup in July. In other words, NFL teams may not be interested in getting Newton.

The Patriots finished the season with a 7-9 record. Newton’s career is hanging in the air. Washington head coach Ron Rivera may give Newton a chance to play his best football. But, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had great words for the quarterback, so he may keep Newton around for a while. Moreover, Newton may get a backup role in 2021. The Patriots will probably select a quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft. They may also trade for a player. This will put Newton in an interesting position as he will have to mentor a younger player. Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks. Belichick has already made some changes.
