Ex-Patriots TE Jermaine Wiggins Has A Message For Bill Belichick About Getting Jimmy Garoppolo Back

The New England Patriots struggled to find the right replacement for Tom Brady. The veteran quarterback left the organization after 20 years and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cam Newton joined the team in July, 2020, and had to compete with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for the starting position. But, his season with the team didn’t go well. Newton was brilliant in his running game, but his passing numbers reached the lowest of all lows. Most NFL analysts agree that the Patriots should go after another signal-caller in the offseason. Some of them have linked the team to several familiar names. Is head coach Bill Belichick willing to give Jimmy Garoppolo a chance?

According to former Patriots tight end Jermaine Wiggins, bringing Garoppolo back is definitely a bad option.

Bill Belichick knows Jimmy Garoppolo well

Garoppolo’s time in the Bay Area was filled ups and downs. He knows the Patriots really well, and may actually be a good fit for the team. Wiggins doesn’t agree on this one. He is concerned about the fact that Garoppolo plays just 6-8 games per season. Wiggins encouraged the Patriots to search elsewhere for a starting quarterback. Garoppolo has suffered too many injuries.

“Nah, man, we don’t want Garoppolo, man,” Wiggins says. “He can’t get on the field — he’s always hurt. When you look at him, the problem with him is he can’t stay healthy. He’s always hurt. I don’t want a quarterback that’s only going to play 6, 7, 8, 9 games for the year. So, nah, Jimmy G can stay on the left coast.”

Wiggins probably made a good point. Garoppolo played in 6 or less games for the team in three of his four seasons with the team. He was treating different injuries.

This leads us to the following question. Does Jermaine have a favorite? He would like to see the Patriots trade for Deshaun Watson. It may not be a realistic scenario, but Watson is a better option than Garoppolo. That’s just the way Wiggins sees things. Watson is a great option, but it won’t be that easy for him to join Belichick’s team.
