Inside LeBron James’ Friendship With ‘Uncle Warren’ Buffett

LeBron James and Warren Buffett became friends in 2007. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar was traveling to Omaha Nebraska to do a video skit with Buffett for the annual meeting of Berkshire Hathaway. It was a comic video, and LeBron went head to head with Buffett. They did it on the basketball court, and Buffett finished the whole thing with a win.

In Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2019 issue, Buffett wrote about the first time he met King James.

“We had a good time, and since that day, I’ve been impressed with his leadership skills, his sharp mind and his ability to stay grounded.”

In the 2007 trip, LeBron and Buffett spend the weekend together. Their friendship grew stronger over time. In 2014, Buffett arrived in Cleveland to watch LeBron and his teammates play. The four-time NBA champion shared a photo of him and Buffett on the sideline. LeBron even called Buffett, “Uncle Warren.”

LeBron James asked Warren Buffett for advice

There’s an interesting aspect of the friendship between these two. LeBron likes to talk to Buffett and use his financial advice. In 2015, LeBron asked Buffett for an advice. A few years later, Buffett shared his thoughts of LeBron’s financial mind.

“People really do have minds that function better than other people’s in certain areas that you can’t give a test for,” Buffett told USA TODAY Sports. “And LeBron, in addition to a lot of other talents, he has a money mind. And he gets stuff.

“He can separate out the cream from the crap, and you get more of the latter proposed to you than you do of the former. You really have to be able to suss it out.”

LeBron has to work really hard to catch up with his dear friend. Forbes reports that Buffett’s net worth goes above$67.5 billion. In other words, he is the fourth richest person in the entire world. LeBron is a wealthy man, but his net worth is nothing in comparison to Buffett’s billions.
