Mike Florio Says Jimmy Garoppolo Will End Up Back With Patriots

The New England Patriots finished the 2020 NFL season with a 7-9 record. Head coach Bill Belichick hasn’t had a bad record since joining the team. The disappointing season triggered an avalanche of rumors. One of the stories suggests that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo may be back with the Patriots.

Some Patriots fans would love to see Garoppolo back in New England. Reports suggest that the San Francisco 49ers will move on from Garoppolo if they find a better quarterback option. New England had Cam Newton under center in 2020. He couldn’t help the team make the playoffs. Head coach Bill Belichick likes his quarterback but he won’t think twice before making a drastic move and sign another player. The Patriots may need a new signal-caller, and this only makes things easier for Garoppolo. Is he interested in joining the Patriots again?

Garoppolo to be back with the Patriots

Garoppolo suffered an ankle injury in 2020 and spent most of the season at the sideline. This leads us all the way to Mike Florio and his prediction. According to him, the 29-year-old may return to the team that shipped him away in 2017.

“I think they are going to end up with Jimmy Garoppolo,” Florio said on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Thursday. “ That’s my gut feeling right now.”

We should definitely note that Garoppolo has a no-trade clause for the upcoming season. San Francisco can’t trade Garoppolo without permission until March 2022.

Newton had hard time coping with the Patriots roster. He had great skills and experience and head coach Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels like him a lot. This doesn’t change the fact that Newton may have to go. He won the 2015 NFL MVP, but he didn’t have the ultimate performance in 2020. Maybe coach Belichick will get the right weapons to help him win more games in 2021. Maybe they will sign another quarterback and give Newton a backup role.
