More Details Emerge On Matt Patricia New Role Assisting Patriots

Matt Patricia is making his way to the New England Patriots again. NFL experts have made some predictions regarding his role with the New England Patriots. According to recent reports, Patricia will have a different role in 2021.

Albert Breer reported that Patricia may get the same role as former Patriots assistant Mike Lombardi. New England is working on the new deal, and Patricia will probably work on projects and “be a resource to Belichick.”

My understanding is Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Matt Patricia are working out a role similar to what Mike Lombardi's was in New England. Again, still a work in progress, but Patricia is expected to work on projects, be a resource to Belichick.

Ian Rapoport from NFL Media reported that Patricia will join the evaluating personnel.

New England is seeing a lot of changes this offseason. Former director of player personnel Nick Caserio left the team to accept the Houston Texans general manager position. Assistant director of player personnel Dave Ziegler will probably replace Caserio.

Outside linebackers coach Steve Belichick is the current defensive playcaller for the team. Inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo has a big role in the Patriots’ defensive staff.

Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was close to leaving the organization. Again. He showed interest in joining the Philadelphia Eagles as their head coach. It was an attractive idea, and McDaniels would definitely love to coach his own team again. He was once a head coach, but lost his job.

Patriots head coach Belichick trusts McDaniels and he wouldn’t let him go. McDaniels knows the system and he is a perfect fit for the Patriots coaching staff. Belichick contacted the offensive coordinator last week, and McDaniels decided to turn down any offer coming from the Eagles.

Belichick trusts Patricia, too. They worked together for several seasons, and Patricia actually helped the team win two Super Bowls. Having a familiar name back in the coaching staff is always a good idea.

Patricia had great success with the team and he worked on both sides of the ball. Belichick would pick the right role for his old friend. The Patriots will try to avoid making the same mistakes in 2021. The team lost the chance to make the playoffs and finished the season with a 7-9 record. Belichick wants more than that. Patriots veterans want more than that. They are used to winning games and getting their rings.
