NBA Analyst Urges Lakers to Trade for Former Starting Big Man

The Los Angeles Lakers played the first 10 games of the 2020-21 NBA season. NBA experts noticed the difference in the performance. Players seem to have some struggles on the basketball court. LA players won 20 games last season before losing the third. This year, they lost three of 10 games. Well, players had a short offseason and didn’t have much time to prepare. It was more than obvious that they’d get off to a slow start. Experts have come up with the perfect plan. Maybe the Lakers should trade for a former big man starter.

The front office traded away starting center JaVale McGee to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the offseason. McGee had to go in order to create more room for Marc Gasol. Former NBA big man Kendrick Perkins is convinced that the Lakers made a big mistake. According to him, the team should find a way to bring McGee back.

The Lakers to trade for their big man

McGee has a nice season with his new team. He has a backup role this season but stacks more points than last season. In 2019-20, McGee was averaging 6.6 points per game. Now he is averaging 8.8 points per game. McGee is averaging 6.4 rebounds per game. Last season, he was averaging 5.7 rebounds.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have a nice start to the season. They have a 5-5 record at this point of the regular season.

Gasol is the only true center in Los Angeles. Bringing McGee back seems like a good idea. Montrezl Harrell played center for most of his career. He is 6-foot-8 and “he is a liability on defense” most of the time.

Trading for McGee may not be a realistic scenario for the team. If the Lakers needed him, they wouldn’t have sent him to Cleveland. That’s not all. The team doesn’t have any draft assets to trade. Rob Pelinka wouldn’t trade a key player to bring back McGee. Maybe the team needs more size on the floor. One thing stands for sure. The Lakers would rather keep Talen Horton-Tucker or Harrell than bringing back McGee.
