Patriots Fans Will Lose Their Minds Over Pick In PFF’s Latest Mock Draft

NFL draft season is reaching its highest pick, and experts keep fans entertained with the PFF NFL Draft Guide. It has all the grades and stats on the draft prospects who are getting ready for Senior Bowl week, combine workouts and remote interviews with NFL teams. Of course, there will be tons of hypothetical draft board moves in the next few weeks. This leads us all the way to the New England Patriots and fans have high expectations.

Let’s not forget that mock drafts aren’t supposed to predict future moves. They are actually an exercise in team-building. PFF’s mock draft offers potential options for each NFL team and their first-round picks. Trades are no longer part of the equation.

Steve Palazzolo wrote an interesting scenario, linking the Patriots to Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith.

“While quarterback is an offseason priority in New England, adding playmakers is right there at the top of the list. Smith is coming off perhaps the best college wide receiver season of all time; he’s an outstanding route-runner with after-the-catch and ball skills to win with any style. The Patriots may be in a tough spot to find their quarterback in the middle of the first, but adding Smith and his 94.9 PFF grade will make the future New England signal-caller quite happy.”

Patriots fans got excited

According to Palazzolo, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, and Trey Lance will go before Smith. The same applies to wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle.

Smith was brilliant in 13 games this past season. He was able to catch 117 passes for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns, four carries for 6 yards and a touchdown, and 11 punt returns for 237 yards and a touchdown. In his college career, Smtih had 235 passes for 3,965 yards with 46 touchdowns. NFL experts don’t really pay much attention to him being an undersized wide receiver measuring at 6 feet 1, 175 pounds.

In the first half of Alabama’s national championship game, Smith had 12 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns. The Patriots have Julian Edelman, Jakobi Meyers, N’Keal Harry, Marquise Lee, Gunner Olszewski, Devin Smith, Kristian Wilkerson, and Isaiah Zuber under contract for the upcoming season. Damiere Byrd and Donte Moncrief will enter free agency.
