Report: Josh McDaniels Believed To Be ‘Prime Candidate’ For Eagles Job

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels may soon leave the team and join the Philadelphia Eagles. How do we know this? Recent reports suggest that the Patriots OC made a good impression during his interview.

According to these reports, McDaniels is “a prime candidate” for the Eagles’ head coach vacancy. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler confirmed the information. Todd Bowles from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had his interview in the afternoon, and he still enjoys internal support. Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has yet to have his interview planned.

McDaniels landed in Palm Beach, Florida, Sunday to meet Eagles representatives. His interview began before noon and finished after 9 p.m. ET. John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia confirmed the report. Clark’s report suggests that McDaniels did a good job during his interview.

Josh McDaniels to join the Eagles

The Patriots offensive coordinator has spent most of his career with the team. He was coaching Patriots quarterbacks for 13 of the last 17 years. He also had two extended stints as the Patriots offensive coordinator (2005-2008 and 2012 to present). McDaniels also spent 1 ½ seasons at the Denver Broncos’ head coach in the period between 2009 and 2010. He was also an offensive coordinator with St. Louis Rams in 2011.

McDaniels has experience with quarterbacks and this goes in favor of the Eagles.

Last month, McDaniels said he wants to coach his own team again. He has interviews each year. At least one NFL team shows interest in McDaniels each offseason. The whole thing started in 2013. McDaniels got the Indianapolis Colts job after the 2017 season. However, he did change his mind and remained with the Patriots.

Patriots linebackers coach Jerod Mayo interviewed for Philadelphia’s head coach vacancy. The Eagles and Texans are the only teams with empty head coaching positions. Will McDaniels join the Eagles as their new head coach?

Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t let McDaniels leave the organization. Some say that the legendary head coach will do his best to keep McDaniels close to him. Maybe McDaniels will take Belichick’s position one day.
