Report: Patriots Are Linked to Three Blue-Chip Quarterbacks

The New England Patriots have brought to an end their disappointing season. This gives them plenty of time to make the right moves in the offseason. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton didn’t have much success in his season with the team, and his future is hanging in the air. The Patriots have offered Newton a one-year deal. What will happen next? Head coach Bill Belichick made Newton compete with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. He got the starting job but failed to meet the expectations. The Patriots have been linked with several quarterbacks, including three big names.

WEEI’s most recent story suggests that the team can easily go for one of these options. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio went on The Greg Hill Show to talk about the current quarterback situation in New England.

“I think they’re going to end up with Jimmy Garoppolo,” Florio said. Of course, Florio is concerned about Garoppolo’s durability, but these concerns won’t make him change his mind. He predicts that the San Francisco 49ers quarterback will return to the Patriots.

Patriots were linked with three quarterbacks

Rodney Harrison and Peter King say that if the Detroit Lions trade Matthew Stafford, New England would be an excellent fit. WEEI explained that this can also happen if the Houston Texans trade Deshaun Watson. New England would show great interest in making a deal with a familiar name. Nick Caserio left the Patriots to become the general manager for the Texans.

New England has to address the quarterback situation. Each of these players would fit for the Patriots’ system.

Cam Newton gave the Patriots an average performance. It was really fun watching him during press conferences. The 2015 NFL MVP had an up and down season with the Patriots. He had a hard time replacing quarterback Tom Brady and his six rings. He couldn’t meet the expectations. The Patriots didn’t give Newton the right weapons on the field. He didn’t have a nice passing game and threw five touchdowns in 11 games. The veteran had nine interceptions and gave the team 11 rushing touchdowns.
