Report: Patriots Sign 10 To Future Contracts, Including Quarterback & Two Kickers

The New England Patriots will keep most of the 2020 practice unit as they signed 10 players to reserve/future contracts. This includes two Patriots kickers and one quarterback.

K Roberto Aguayo
QB Jake Dolegala
DT Bill Murray
G Ross Reynolds
K Justin Rohrwasser
CB D’Angelo Ross
WR Devin Smith
DT Nick Thurman
WR Kristian Wilkerson
WR Isaiah Zuber

It’s interesting to note that Rohrwasser got his spot despite the fact that he spent the entire 2020 NFL season on the practice unit. Veteran Aguayo joined the Patriots in December after a two-year break from the NFL.

Veteran kicker Nick Folk will become unrestricted free agent in March. He went 26-for-28 on field-goal attempts in 2020. Folk won’t retire at this point so he will probably play in 2021.

Patriots sign one quarterback

Dolegala was the No.4 quarterback behind Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. He and Stidham are under contract for 2021.

Zuber showed great game in his four gameday elevation. Head coach Bill Belichick will make him compete with Smith and Wilkerson for a spot in the Patriots receiving unit. This group will look a lot different in 2021.

The Patriots signed Murray as undrafted free agent after the 2020 NFL Draft. He has yet to make a pro debut.

Thurman and Ross joined the Patriots in 2019. The former spent some time on the active roster and played in seven games. The Patriots elevated Ross for Sunday’s win over the New York Jets, but he remained inactive.

New England signed three practice unit players to the active roster. Linebacker Cassh Maluia, Cornerback Michael Jackson, and edge rusher Rashod Berry joined the 53-man roster ahead of Sundays’ game. This makes them exclusive-rights free agents in the offseason.

Patriots didn’t sign D-tackle Isaiah Mack, linebacker Michael Pinckney, offensive lineman Jordan Steckler, O-lineman Caleb Benenoch or tight end Jake Burt to future contracts.

New England removed Mack from the COVID-19 list Monday. The NFL lifted Pinckney’s six-game suspension. Benenoch and Burt finished the 2020 season on practice unit.
