Tedy Bruschi Identifies QB as Patriots Possible Offseason Target

The New England Patriots had a disappointing season and finished the year with a 7-9 record. It was horrible and some fans blame veteran quarterback Cam Newton for the situation. Does this mean that the Patriots will go after another quarterback? Head coach Bill Belichick likes Newton and respects his contribution. Former linebacker Tedy Bruschi has something to say about the Patriots and their offseason plans.

The Patriots missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2008 season. The team recorded a sub-.500 record for the first time since the 2000 season. Head coach Belichick may want to change some things on his roster.

Tom Brady left the Patriots in the spring of 2020. New England had hard time replacing him.

Tedy Bruschi supports the Patriots

Bruschi talked about this during his appearance on WEEI’s “Ordway, Merloni & Fauria.” According to him, Jimmy Garoppolo may be the best option for the Patriots right now.

Brady left a big void in New England. Replacing him is almost impossible.

“Any other quarterback, why do you want to follow Tom Brady?” asked Bruschi. “You’re always going to be compared to the successes and the past, and that is going to make it a tough job. That’s going to make it a job to where guys will come in, ‘I can’t live up to that.’ Think the pressure is higher than ever in New England in terms of who the next quarterback is going to be.

“You better have some guts to come in here,” added Bruschi. “I’ll tell you that right now because from Day 1 it is going to be like, ‘OK, we’re ready for a Super Bowl championship.’ And [that quarterback] will have to deliver because that’s what [fans] are used to here. Think Garoppolo knows that. I think Garoppolo could even say, ‘You know what, I can do it. I know how it’s done.’ To me, maybe that is the best option because of the amount of pressure the new guy is going to have. It’s going to be a hard, hard task.”

Garoppolo is under contract with his team for two more years. But, his future is hanging in the air. Maybe his team will send him away.
