Todd McShay Releases Big Prediction For 2021 Patriots

The New England Patriots finished one of the most disappointing seasons in team history, and head coach Bill Belichick is already planning the offseason. NFL experts have made some really insane predictions about the team. Todd McShay came up with a pretty realistic scenario about the 2021 Patriots.

New England owns the No.15 pick in the first round of the draft. The team finished 2020 with a 7-9 record. This gives Belichick a chance to select for a quarterback. According to McShay’s post-regular season mock draft, the Patriots will sign the second-best quarterback on the market. Will Belichick be able to snatch Justin Fields from Ohio State?

The Jacksonville Jaguars will select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No.1 overall. Rumors suggest that the New York Jets will draft Fields as No.1 overall. McShay is convinced that the Jets will stay with Sam Arnold, providing him with a lot of great weapons.

A talented option for the 2021 Patriots

McShay’s scenario doesn’t include any trade deals. In any other case, Fields would come off the board earlier than No.15. McShay put Zach Wilson ahead of Fields, which would mean that Wilson will go to the Atlanta Falcons as No.4 overall.

“OK, it’s time. And what a terrific outcome this would be for coach Bill Belichick. Fields fell to No. 15 here because we aren’t doing trades in this mock. There’s little chance he makes it this far down the board, especially after his six-touchdown performance in the Sugar Bowl quieted some big-game concerns. Someone will move up to get him.

“But what a nice fit Fields makes in New England. The Patriots tied the Giants for the fewest passing touchdowns in the NFL this season with 12, and New England joined the Broncos as the only teams with more interceptions thrown than TDs (14). Cam Newton, who was largely ineffective this season, will turn 32 in May and is set to be a free agent again. Jarrett Stidham doesn’t appear to be the guy, either. Tom Brady is no longer walking through that door, and it’s a different era for the Patriots’ passing offense. Fields would change that, with plenty of zip on his vertical shots and an ability to create when things break down.”

Many would agree that this is the best scenario for Belichick. The Patriots need to address their quarterback situation in the offseason.
