Analyst Proposes Lakers Trade Veteran Forward for Sharpshooting Guard

The Los Angeles Lakers broke their four-game losing record but they still have some issues to solve. Friday’s win against the Portland Trail Blazers was a good motivation boost. However, the Lakers only shot 26% from three. The franchise fell to 27th in 3-point percentage. Teams with championship aspirations should do better than that. NBA analysts say that the Lakers should trade for a veteran forward.

The trade deadline is almost here. LA should really add a sharpshooter at this point.

Lakers to trade for a talented veteran forward

Dan Favale of Bleacher Report has a great suggestion for the team. According to him, Detroit Pistons guard Wayne Ellington would be just what the team needs at the moment. His proposal makes a point. Favale would send Alfonzo McKinnie, a 2023 second-round and a 2-24 second-round pick to Detroit to get Ellington.

“Head coach Frank Vogel has bemoaned the Lakers’ lack of three-point volume. They are 25th in the share of their attempts that come beyond the arc. Ellington has no bones about firing at will. He is used to more off-ball motion than LeBron-led offenses implement but still useful without it. He’s draining 40 percent of his catch-and-shoot threes and swishing an absurd 47.4 percent of his triples that come after a single dribble.

“Other teams can offer more imminent second-rounders for Ellington. Pretty much everyone can dangle more assets, period. But Ellington shouldn’t engender a full-tilt bidding war, and the Lakers can possibly distinguish themselves by putting two seconds on the table.”

If the Lakers get Ellington, he would enter his second sting with the team. He was part of the 2015-16 team. LA didn’t play that well back then but now they are contenders. That’s more than attractive for a player who has been part of the NBA for a decade and has yet to win a ring.

Ellington is shooting 40% from beyond the arc this season. He is shooting six 3-pointers per a game. In other words, he is the right player to join the Lakers. If the Pistons are willing to trade him, LA should try hard to get him.
