Bill Belichick Would Reportedly ‘Love to Have a Reunion’ Former Quarterback

The New England Patriots need to find the right signal-caller for the 2021 NFL season, and they don’t need to look any further than Jimmy Garoppolo. There have been several stories related to Garoppolo’s potential return to New England. Jason La Canfora from CBS Sports reported that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would love to reunite with his former quarterback.

La Canfora explained that the San Francisco 49ers can easily reach an agreement with the Patriots.

Kyle Shanahan likes Sam Darnold from the New York Jets.  Gang Green has enough strength to get Deshaun Watson from the Texans. According to recent reports, Watson would love to play in NY. It’s his preferred landing spot.

The Jets may get rid of Darnold to get another first-round pick. This will increase their chances of getting Watson. Shanaham likes the former No.2 overall pick, so San Francisco may be the best suitor for Darnold. This relieves the Garoppolo-Patriots reunion. The 49ers will probably try to eliminate their injured quarterback.

Belichick to bring back the former quarterback

Having Garoppolo back would be a good possibility for the Patriots. Maybe Belichick will get another veteran to make Garoppolo compete with him.

Garoppolo knows the Patriots. Belichick and his assistants know the quarterback really well. The Patriots selected Garoppolo in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was set to replace Tom Brady. TB12 was too good to be replaced. His on-field greatness shut down Garoppolo’s chances to go under center.

New England traded Garoppolo to the 49ers in 2017.

Garoppolo is an accurate passer. He completed 67.5% of his throws with 51 touchdown passes and 26 interceptions. This is not really spectacular. Why would Belichick bring him back? Garoppolo wins games. He has a career quarterback record of 24-8.

There’s one major problem. Garoppolo is not really a durable player. He has missed 33 games during his time with the 49ers. In 2020, Garoppolo missed 10 games due to a severe high-ankle sprain. He only played in all 16 games in 2019. San Francisco was 13-3 that season and they made the Super Bowl.
