Cam Newton Gets Brutal Label From Long-Time Patriots Analyst

Cam Newton raised too many questions with his interview on the I Am Athlete podcast, and now he got a new label. Local Boston media had an interesting reaction to the whole situation.

NBC Sports’ Tom Curran discussed Newton’s interview with Phil A. Perry. As you may guess, Curran was pretty raw with his take. He made a few eye-opening, “anti-Newton-return” comments during the podcast. The most awkward line came when Curran said Newton was “a red zone fullback who can throw.”

Cam Newton is well aware of the label

Is there a worse way to describe a franchise quarterback? This interview was really shocking, and you may want to start from the 8:20 mark of the video.

Newton has been making headlines since the very first moment he left the Carolina Panthers. He joined the Patriots through a one-year deal and missed the playoffs. According to Curran, Newton’s appearance on the podcast was nothing but a “charismatic plea by a desperate guy.”

Well, we can’t really say that 2020 was a good season for Newton and the Patriots. But, one thing stands for sure. It wasn’t as bad as it was portrayed.

We know that Newton lacked strong receivers. New England didn’t give him enough weapons. the quarterback got COVID-19 and missed one game. His return didn’t go smooth and Newton didn’t have much time to prepare for the season. Head coach Bill Belichick offered him a one-year deal and Newton signed his deal in July. Newton’s doubters kept pouring out their venom.

Curran and Perry spent a big chunk of the interview discussing Newton’s role with the Patriots. They acknowledged that the Patriots would be a playoff team and AFC East contender if Newton re-signs with the organization and gets enough great weapons.

The Patriots nation has multiple issues to solve at the moment. The team won a lot of games in the past two decades. Newton was never a favorite, and he knows it best.

His deal with the Patriots didn’t make the best headlines. Some people weren’t really happy about it. Let’s see how will things go in 2021.
