Cam Newton Says Teammate Was Mentally ‘Battered’ by the Patriot Way

Veteran quarterback Cam Newton knows how to make headlines, and this time he talked about the Patriot way. The New England Patriots had Newton for a year, and he learned pretty much everything about the team. Things took an interesting turn for the Patriots.

In his sitdown with the I Am Athlete hosts Chad Johnson, Fred Taylor, and Brandon Marshall, Newton shared some memorable moments from his time with the Patriots. However, he also shared an honest take on teammate N’Keal Harry.

Cam Newton knows the Patriot Way

Newton will soon enter free agency. He talked about the 2020 receiver group, and Newton always had his teammates’ back. However, Newton said he believes Harry had been “battered” in his rookie campaign and his sophomore campaign in 2020. Let’s not forget that Newton refers to Harry as “Doughboy.”

The 2015 NFL MVP points to his head when he makes the “battered” reference. High expectations destroyed Harry and he couldn’t really adjust to the team’s method of holding everyone accountable.

Harry had a tough start to the season. He began his career on IR for the first half of the 2019 NFL season. He returned to the field in his rookie campaign and it was awful. The same applies to the 2020 campaign. Newton had 33 catches, 309 yards, and two touchdowns. The Patriots really needed a talented receiver who can break out. Jakobi Meyers had 59 catches, for 729 yards. Harry failed to meet the expectations.

Harry’s production didn’t meet the expectations for a player selected at 32nd overall. The Patriots picked him for a reason. Harry’s trainer made headlines with the comments he made on Newton and the Patriots. Harry distanced himself from the situation, but his role in the locker room suffered a lot.

A group of talented wide receivers will enter the open market. The 2021 NFL Draft has a group of great players. New England needs enough players to make the playoffs in 2021. The team missed the playoffs in 2020 because they lacked weapons.

Let’s see how will things turn for the young receiver in 2021. Belichick would love to see more of him.
