ESPN Release Bold Offseason Prediction For Quarterback-Needy Patriots

The New England Patriots entered the offseason with a few problems related to their roster. Head coach Bill Belichick needs a quarterback. This is probably the biggest need for the team. According to ESPN and their recent prediction, the Patriots will bring a former player to do the job in 2021.

Beat writers made predictions for the teams they cover. Mike Reiss did the signal-caller route, and surprised everyone. According to him, veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is making his way back to New England.

“This banks on the 49ers being willing to part with Garoppolo, a combination of his $25 million salary and injury history leading them to consider potential upgrades in an offseason when the QB shuffle across the NFL could be intriguing,” Reiss wrote. “If they do, it makes sense to think the Patriots would be at the front of the line to bring Garoppolo, who was the original succession plan to Tom Brady, back to New England.”

Bringing Garoppolo back makes great sense for New England. The Patriots will have their first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft at No.15. This is less than conventional for the Patriots as they have less chances to get the next franchise QB. Maybe the team will target a veteran quarterback. This makes Garoppolo the perfect option.

ESPN makes an expected prediction on the Patriots

There are some cons about Garoppolo’s potential arrival in Foxboro. He sustained many injuries in his career and carries some physical limitations on his back. However, he did spend three seasons with the Patriots and he sort of knows their system. This may be the best selling point for the Patirots head coach. Let’s not forget that Garoppolo has led his team to a Super Bowl.

Getting Garoppolo won’t be that easy, and San Francisco won’t let him go that easily. But, if the opportunity presents itself, Belichick will sure use the opportunity and sign Garoppolo.

Cam Newton led the Patriots in 2020, but the team failed to make the playoffs. Newton was limited on the field, and he lacked strong weapons. His passing game wasn’t that great.
