Former New England Star Threatened Bill Belichick, Patriots

Imagine threatening New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Asante Samuel may be special because the former star really threatened Belichick.

Samuel appeared on Terrell Owens’ podcast Getcha Popcorn Ready and shared details of his story. Believe it or not, Samuel once threatened Belichick and dared him to franchise him. The player had some struggles with his playing time in 2006. Do you know that the Patriots head coach once played 2-way player Troy Brown over Samuel at points?

Chad Brown sustained an injury after Week 11, and Belichick had to put Samuel on the field. He had a three-interception game against the Chicago Bears. The four-time Pro-Bowler taunted coach B as he run back the first two picks.

Former NFL star threatened Belichick for his own reason

Samuel planeed to finish his deal with the Patriots after the 2007 season. Before that year, Belichick called him from a blocked number and told him he wanted to use the franchise tag on him. Samuel wanted to talk to team owner Robert Kraft. The Patriots owner made similar comments, but was “a little less forceful.” Samuel warned Belichick. The head coach told him, “go home, and have your agent call me in the morning.”

Samuel signed his tenure as a restricted free agent, but New England didn’t franchise tag him. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason.

The Pro-Bowler was an excellent player, but the breakup was the best option in his case. He had three Super Bowl wins, four Pro Bowls, and All-Pro honors. This says pretty much everything you need to know about his talent. But, he had a unique personality.

Belichick is all-in when it comes to building team chemistry and a strong locker room. He has a great vision for his team and didn’t allow any disruptions in that aspect. Samuel was a great player, and Belichick wanted to keep him around for another year. The NFL legend wanted out, and the Patriots let him walk. Samuel won two rings with the Patriots and didn’t win another Super Bowl in the final years of his career. He last played in 2013 as a member of the Atlanta Falcons.
