Former Patriots Quarterback Called a ‘Natural Fit’ for a Return to Foxborough

The New England Patriots will need a quarterback in the 2021 season. They had veteran Cam Newton under center in 2020, but he will probably have to leave the team this offseason. New England thinks of getting several names, including a former Patriots quarterback. According to recent sources, the former Patriots quarterback may arrive in Foxborough in the near future.

Jimmy Garoppolo is considered a “natural fit” to return to the team that selected him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Mike Reiss from ESPN talked about the Patriots’ future plans. When it comes to a potential trade for the 49ers quarterback, Reiss wrote that “Jimmy Garoppolo would be a natural fit to return, but that would require the San Francisco 49ers be open to moving him. No guarantee there.”

Garoppolo is the best option for San Francisco. However, some believe that the team may be working on several trade options in the offseason. They want to sign Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Sam Darnold from the New York Jets is also an option for the team.

The Niners like North Dakota State rookie quarterback Trey Lance. They have the 12th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Maybe they will use this pick to get Lance and put him under center in the futute. This option would work well if the team misses the chance to sign Watson or Darnold.

If this is true, we can easily say that the 49ers are already thinking of moving Garoppolo. He is an effective player, but his injuries are terrible. The veteran missed a lot of time on the floor. He appeared in just 17 games in three years with the Patriots. San Francisco traded a second-round pick for Garoppolo in 2016 and he became a starter.

In his NFL career, the veteran has a 24-8 quarterback record. In 2019, Garoppolo had a 13-3 run and the Niners made the Super Bowl.

Durability is the biggest concern at the moment. Maybe this will push Garoppolo closer to New England. He knows the system, and Belichick likes the idea of reuniting with his former quarterback.
