Lakers Are a Possible Landing Spot for Legendary Shooter

The Los Angeles Lakers play without Anthony Davis and Dennis Schroder, and they really need a few more players. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka is expected to boost the roster. Schroder will soon clear his COVID-19 protocols, and AD will return soon. LA looks great when players are healthy, but they still need extra help. The front office waived Quinn Cook and they will soon try their chances at the trade and buyout markets. Bobby Marks from ESPN says the Lakers may be a top shot for many buyout candidates, including a top shooter.

Is JJ Redick an option?

“Because they have two open roster spots, expect the Lakers to sign one player to a 10-day contract and leave the other spot open until the trade deadline,” Marks explained. “Some names to keep an eye on in the buyout market if they are not traded are Wayne Ellington, Trevor Ariza, JJ Redick, Alec Burks, Mike Muscala, Reggie Bullock, Ed Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Elfrid Payton and Tucker.”

Redick to be the next Lakers shooter

The Lakers would have to make some changes to get the player. A few other things should happen for Redick to come to LA. Brian Windhorst from ESPN says the Pelicans are trying to trade Redick to give more time for their younger players.

“Yes, and not just those two guys [J.J. Redick and Lonzo Ball], Eric Bledsoe [has] also been involved in trade talks and in a lot of cases, it is the Pelicans making the calls,” Windhorst explained on the January 27th episode of The Jump. “There is interest there to move out some of the veteran guards to make room for Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis, their first-round draft pick, to get those guys some playing time. The Pelicans are going to be making some changes I believe.”

Redick is shooting 35.8 percent from beyond the arc. This is his worst shooting numbers since the 2012-13 season.

Los Angeles needs to improve the three-point shooting. Redick may be the best fit to help LA. He has a $13 million salary in 2021 and he is in the final season of his two-year deal.

LeBron James knows that his team needs to regain the shooting touch.
