New England Patriots’ Trade Offer for Matthew Stafford Revealed

The Los Angeles Lakers will get Matthew Stafford as soon as the NFL will allow the contract to be made official. Adam Schefter from ESPN wrote a report on this contract. Stafford’s deal has been making headlines for quite some time. The New England Patriots wanted to offer Stafford a deal. The former No.1 pick attracted Bill Belichick’s attention, but he didn’t feel the same way about the Patriots.

According to some reports, Stafford told the Lions they could send him anywhere but New England. This was a big blow for the organization. New England is a proud and dominant organization, but the 2020 season changed everything. It looks like some players lost all the respect for the Patriots. The team missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008 and this was pretty confusing for some fans and players.

Stafford didn’t want to join the Patriots, but this was probably related to the trade package New England offered.

Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated shared his thoughts on the Patriots and their role in the Stafford situation.

“The Patriots and Bears both checked in. New England was willing to package a second-rounder with a player to get Stafford, which, when added to the Patriots’ absence on a list of preferred destinations (something my buddy Tom Curran reported on Sunday) quickly eliminated Bill Belichick & Co. from the chase.”

New England failed to make a good offer for Stafford

This offer couldn’t match the offer Los Angeles had on the table. The Lions got two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and Jared Goff. Stafford will turn 33 and his performance will drop over time. The Lions can now reset their team with a bunch of new players.

Goff is nothing like the NFL greats, but he is definitely a competitive player. He will help the Lions compete on the field, providing a nice boost to his current position.

New England will have to try even harder to adjust the roster to perfection. Tom Brady’s departure damaged the team. Former Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola talked about this during an appearance on FS1’s “First Things First.” According to him, “Tom Brady is the Patriot Way.”

When it comes to Brady, he made the Super Bowl with his current team.
