Patriots Captain Reveals Bill Belichick’s Message After 2020 Season

The New England Patriots missed the playoffs for the very first time since the 2008 season. It was a big blow for head coach Bill Belichick and his organization. Patriots veterans had a hard time accepting the new reality. They won’t make the playoffs this year. Unlike his former team, Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made the Super Bowl. They are going after the Kansas City Chiefs. One Patriots captain talked about the failure in 2020.

Lawrence Guy joined the Patriots in 2017. He made the postseason pretty much every season. Being part of the Super Bowl became his thing. Missing out on the postseason was tough for Patriots players. Head coach Belichick encouraged his players once they left the battlefield.

Patriots captain won’t repeat the 2020 experience

Guy appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio to talk about the Patriots. He also revealed Belichick’s message to his team at the end of the season. The Patriots head coahc believes that 2020 will motivate players to do much better in 2021. May this failure be their fuel for the upcoming season.

“Coach is going to do what he’s got to do,” Guy said. “When we left our exit meeting, it was one of those things like, ‘Hey, what’s going to happen next?’ And (Belichick) was like, ‘You guys have to understand. This was a season that we didn’t predict. We had COVID hit. We had a lot of situations that occurred on our team. There was a lot of new people. We didn’t win (the number of) games that we want to win. But that doesn’t mean that we just put our tails under our butts and just walk away. That means you strive to be better the following year.’”

The Patriots went through an outbreak in October. Several players missed time on the field, including Cam Newton. He missed a week and returned weaker than usual. Marcus Cannon, Patrick Chung and Dont’a Hightower decided to opt-out of the season due to health concerns.

Newton’s positive test destroyed the great start of the season.

2020 was a bad season for the Patriots, and Belichick will make sure it doesn’t happen ever again.
