Patriots Captain Suggests Forgotten Quarterback Still an Option to Start in 2021

The New England Patriots need a quarterback, and they will definitely get one in the offseason. The team has shown interest in many players, including Deshaun Watson, Carson Wentz, Mac Jones, and even Jimmy Garoppolo. However, the Patriots have an excellent option on their roster, and they may consider putting the young player under center.

Jarrett Stidham, everyone.

Patriots captain James White made an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio to discuss the team’s quarterback situation.

Patriots to use Jarrett Stidham in 2021

According to White, Stidham workes really hard and has strong arms. The young quarterback studies really hard and being a backup QB doesn’t seem like an option for him right now. Of course, Stidham doesn’t get many reps, but he is definitely motivated to move on and show his real skills.

“I am sure he’s chomping at the bit to get his opportunity. I think he will be a guy that can get some things done. He works hard. Strong arm, studies hard, prepares hard and it’s tough being a backup. He may not get many reps as he wants to, but he stayed motivated throughout that entire season. He got to play sometimes towards the end of games. He’s a young guy excited to get out there. You want to play those four full quarters and get your opportunity. I am sure he’s working hard this offseason to prove that he can do that.”

Stidham played in five games last season. Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t trust him enough to put him under center. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for coronavirus, and Belichick placed veteran Brian Hoyer under center. Hoyer had a terrible first half, and Belichick benched him. Stidham finished the job, completing 5 of 13 passes for 60 yards. He delivered a strong touchdown pass to wideout N’Keal Harry and two interceptions.

The young quarterback took to Instagram to share some photos of him working out. Quarterback coach Jordan Palmer was working with him that day. Boston fans like him, and maybe Belichick will give him a chance in 2021.
