Patriots Potential Suitors for Former No. 2 Pick, QB Trade Reportedly Near

The Philadelphia Eagles will probably get rid of Carson Wentz in the offseason. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen reported on the possibility. The New England Patriots are listed as potential suitors for the talented player.

Patriots are great suitors for Wentz

The 28-year-old attracted the attention of the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts. Wentz had some “run-ins” with the coaching staff, and some say he is pretty “uncoachable.” Well, local Boston sports media have already started talking about Wentz’s potential arrival in New England.

Former Patriots tight end and co-host of WEEI’s OMF show, Christian Fauria reminded fans of the Patriots’ offseason strategy. Bill Belichick gets wild in the offseason, and he is “extremely and uncharacteristically aggressive.” As Tom E. Curran likes to say, “…[Bill Belichick]’s plenty motivated already I’m sure. And everything I’m hearing from down there is that the Patriots are going to be extremely and uncharacteristically aggressive this offseason.”

Wentz played 12 games for the Eagles in 2020. He had a 3-8-1 record in his games with the team. The talented player completed 57.4% of his passes and threw for 2,620 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. His stats were pretty different in the previous seasons. Weintz sustained many injuries in his career.

He played in all 16 games in his rookie campaign and led the Eagles to a 7-9 record. His breakout season happened in 2017. Philadelphia had a 11-2 record but Wentz tore his ACL. He missed the final 3 games of the regular season, the postseason, and the Super Bowl run that season.

Wentz may have a good season

In the following season, Wentz missed 5 games and the Eagles had a 5-6 record in his 11 starts. In 2019, Wentz managed to return to his old self. He started all 16 games and Philadelphia had a 9-7 record. Wentz completed 64% of his passes and threw for 4,039 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. NFL teams would love to see the same performance in 2021.

The Patriots missed the playoffs. Thre now trying to bring enough talent to win more games in 2021. Belichick is looking for a quarterback and he has a few options on his hand.
