Patriots Stephon Gilmore Shares Motivational Message as he Enters This Offseason of Uncertainty

The New England Patriots entered the offseason with so many questions on the table. At least 20 Patriots players will enter the open market, and some of them will probably sign with a different team. The NFL league opens in March and this leads us to a big question. Will Stephon Gilmore leave the Patriots in the offseason?

The veteran quarterback has been part of almost every trade rumor. Gilmore has one year remaining on his deal. The Patriots borrowed from Gilmore’s 2021 salary to offer him a raise in September, so he is set to make $7 million in 2021. He is also set to get a $343,750 bonus. Most NFL experts earn more than that. Let’s not forget that Gilmore won NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2019. He joined the last three Pro Bowls.

Stephon Gilmore to make a decision this offseason

The 30-year-old may not want to play for $7 million. If Gilmore leaves the team, New England will have to make a move. Will head coach Bill Belichick give Gilmore a new contract? Will the top cornerback end up on the trade block?

NFL experts are also worried about Gilmore’s health. He tore his quad and missed the last few games of the 2020 NFL season. The veteran had to undergo surgery in December, but he is expected to play in 2021.

There were so many questions about Gilmore. He deleted his social media accounts. He delivered his first tweet on Wednesday. It was a motivational message, related to his offseason uncertainty.

“If I didn’t sacrifice I wouldn’t be where I’m at now so I’m going to keep sacrificing,” Gilmore wrote.

New England has to make decisions about the Nos. 2 and 3 cornerbacks. J.C. Jackson will be a restricted free agent and veteran Jason McCourty is unrestricted free agent. Special teams star Justin Bethel will be unrestricted free agent, too.

Head coach Bill Belichick has Gilmore, Jonathan Jones, Joejuan Williams, Myles Bryant, and D’Angelo Ross in the group. These players are under contract for the upcoming season.
