Pau Gasol Makes Big Announcement Regarding Basketball Career

NBA legend Pau Gasol made a decision on his basketball career. He had great success in the NBA, and many thought he’d retire. However, great Gasol decided to sign a new deal.

FC Barselona has reached an agreement with the Spaniard. He will stay under contract for the remainder of the 2020-21 season. The information was confirmed by several sources, including Mundo Deportivo.

The 40-year-old is trying to get in shape and get ready for the Olympic Games over the summer. Barca, Gasol’s first pro team in 1998 prior to his NBA era, was among his top options. Eurohoops wrote several reports on this possibility. Gasol is a free agent since the Portland Trail Blazers waived him in November before he played one game with the Oregon organization.

Gasol has already denied the reunion rumors after president Josep Maria Bartomeu shared his idea of seeing Gasol in a Barca jersey once again.

Pau Gasol makes the right decision in his basketball career

The Spanish powerhouse, widely considered among greatest European players, left Barca two decades ago, in 2001. The Atlanta Hawks selected the Barcelona-born center with the third pick of the 2001 NBA draft. The team traded his draft rights to the Memphis Grizzlies. Gasol played in 1,362 NBA games between the Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and San Antonio Spurs, winning a couple of roles on his way to the top.

Gasol suffered a lot of injuries and needed a lot of time to recover. These issues prevented the Spaniard from extending his long and successful career. However, he has a chance to represent Spain in Tokyo and the Olympic Games are already here. Gasol plans to play more and see more success on the floor. This Barcelona comeback is more than impressive.

Mundo Deportivo reported that Gasol won’t get money from Barcelona because he wants to get back into shape with the goal to retire after playing one last time with the Spanish national team in Tokyo.
