Report: Multiple Quarterbacks ‘Made It Clear’ They Want To Play For Patriots

The New England Patriots have yet to make a decision on their quarterbacks. Veteran Cam Newton didn’t play his best football in his first year with the team. Head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels like him a lot, but the organization may move on from the 2015 NFL MVP. Newton is a great player, but he failed to lead the Patriots to the playoffs. The team has been linked to several quarterbacks, including Houston Texans’ Deshaun Watson and San Francisco 49ers Jimmy Garoppolo. According to recent reports, several quarterbacks want to play for the Patriots in 2021.

Belichick’s current team finished the 2020 NFL season with a 7-9 record. The team missed the playoffs and Matthew Stafford didn’t want to have anything to do with the Patriots. Fans have some concerns right now despite the fact that Belichick plans to have an aggressive offseason.

Several quarterbacks want to play for Belichick’s Patriots

Greg Bedard from Boston Sports Journal delivered a surprising column Tuesday morning. He believes that the Patriots are pretty confident about their offseason, suggesting that several quarterbacks would love to join the team.

“The Patriots have no issues with their ability to land good players, despite the hysteria surrounding this move,” Bedard wrote. “The expectation is the Patriots will make some moves at some point that will make it clear they aren’t asleep at the wheel and will quickly change the expectations for the team. What those moves could be, obviously I don’t know and no one’s telling me.

“What are the Patriots’ plans now at quarterback? Good question, and I’m not even sure they quite know. But I was told that there are a couple of players who have made it clear that they desire to come to New England should the opportunity present itself. No, I don’t have any names.”

Bedard appeared on “Felger & Mazz” to talk about several topics, including Belichick’s hunt for quarterbacks. He mentioned a few names. As you may be guessing, Garoppolo is on his list. So are Derek Carr, Gardner Minshew, and Jameis Winston. Bedard noted that this was just him making guesses.
