Report: New England Patriots Named Best Fit for Speedy Free Agent WR

The New England Patriots could really use more speed on offense in 2020. If they want to improve this aspect of the game, the team will have to sign speedy players. According to recent reports, the Patriots may be a nice fit for a free agent WR.

Will Fuller is definitely an option. The former Houston Texans speedy wide receiver has been a big threat that pushes defenses vertically. Jeremy Fowler from ESPN believes that New England could easily get Fuller in the offseason.

“No team needs a playmaking upgrade more, and Fuller has some New England traits — fast but isn’t limited to deep balls, has run-after-catch ability, will have a robust but not outrageous market. The Dolphins also need a true vertical threat who can get it done at all levels of the field. Maybe he simply follows Deshaun Watson wherever he goes. Fuller is oft-injured but showed No. 1 qualities last season.”

Patriots may be concerned about the free agent WR

Fuller is definitely a brilliant upgrade for Belichick’s receiving unit. However, giving him a big deal won’t be that easy. There are some cons in this case.

The wide receiver played his best football in 2020. Fuller saw action in 11 games and offered 53 receptions for 879 yards and 8 touchdowns. NFL experts were impressed with his longest reception. It was a 77-yarder. These stats are career high for the veteran, and this will give him a good season in the offseason.

The 26-year-old will turn 27 on April 16. He has a few amazing years left in his career. His speed could be of great help for quarterbacks and tight ends on the Patriots roster.

Fuller can take the top off a defense and this changes the entire picture for the Patriots.

The veteran brings speed, but he has a hard time staying healthy. Let’s not forget that he has never played in 16 games in a regular season. Fuller’s high is 14, and it happened in his rookie campaign. He has missed 27 games due to injury or suspension. The NFL suspended him for the final five games of the 2020 season and the first game in 2021. Fuller used a banned substance in November 2020. He suffered a Grade 3 ACL tear in his knee, and also had to deal with hamstring issues, knee ailments, fractured clavicle, chest and rib breaks, and sports hernia.
