Carson Wentz is not making his way to the New England Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick has been looking for his next franchise quarterback, and Wentz was definitely on his list. According to recent reports, the talented quarterback will join the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots lost one trade target.
Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen reported the former No.2 overall pick would leave the Philadelphia Eagles to join the Indianapolis Colts. Philadelphia traded him for two draft picks.
The Eagles will get a much smaller package than what they looked for at the beginning. Wentz will work with former offensive coordinator Frank Reich. The latter is a head coach fort he Colts, and it’s the perfect reunion for the player.
Philadelphia will probably look for another starter. Jalen Hurts was set to be the player for this job. He took over for Wentz in 2020. Well, his team couldn’t win the division title. The NFC East was packed with talent.
Patriots to go after another trade target
Belichick has just lost a good option. Was he really into getting Wentz? The Patriots could have used him really well. But, there are so many options for the team at the moment. Belichick needs a quarterback, but he is really careful with his options.
The Patriots may trade for a star quarterback like Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans. Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Ryan is also an option. The same applies to Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson.
Marcus Mariota from the Las Vegas Raiders and rookie quarterback Mac Jones are better options for the Patriots.
This leads us to Cam Newton. The veteran quarterback tried to replace Tom Brady, but he didn’t have enough weapons to lead the team to the Super Bowl.
Jarrett Stidham is still under contract. Newton didn’t have an excellent performance in 2020. He lacked weapons, got COVID-19, entered a new system… Newton spent a lot of time with the Patriots, so he knows the system now. He will be much better in 2021. Full training camp, better weapons… This can change his future with the Patriots.
New England was 7-8 in the 2020 NFL season. Newton started 15 games. Is he coming back?
