Colin Cowherd Addresses Deshaun Watson, Patriots Speculation

NFL experts linked veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson to the New England Patriots. He would have been a good fit for Bill Belichick’s roster. There were too many rumors about his potential arrival in New England. Belichick had an aggressive offseason and he was pretty active at the beginning of free agency.

Re-signing Cam Newton was the first thing Belichick did. The 2015 NFL MVP had a terrible season and now he can earn up to $14 million. 2020 was a bad year for Newton but his running game was fine. He lacked weapons to score. In 2021, the quarterback is only guaranteed over $5.1 million.

This deal doesn’t affect the Patriots’ willingness to add another quarterback. Belichick may check out the open market and the NFL Draft. Colin Cowherd is working on his puzzle and he discussed Watson’s potential deal with the Patriots. Let’s not forget that Houston Texans insider John McClain and Patriots beat writer Jeff Howe made some really interesting comments on this possibility.

“This feels like something. Two very well connected people, one saying Deshaun Watson is going to get moved. One saying the Cam contract is incentive based, New England believes it has to get better at quarterback… You’re starting to hear things from people that make sense.”

Deshaun Watson was great against the Patriots

There are so many connections. Nick Caserio left the Patriots to become the new general manager in Houston. He can now lead a team thanks to Bill Belichick.

McClain said the Watson deal is no longer off the table. The Patriots have enough money to get the 25-year-old quarterback despite all the signings they made in the past few days.

Cowherd said that Belichick brought Newton in New England because he struggled to coach against him with the Carolina Panthers. Watson had great numbers against the Patriots:

“2-2 record (2-0 in 2019-20), 263.8 yards per game, eight touchdowns, three interceptions (none in last two games), 116 rushing yards and a score.”

Watson is excellent against the Patriots and Belichick may want to take advantage of his talent. Let’s see what happens next.
