Insider Reveals Massive Price Lakers Will Have to Pay to Keep Key Player

The Los Angeles Lakers got Dennis Schroder for a reason and it was more than obvious that he’d sign a contract extension. The veteran guard is ready to stay with the team for a long time. LA and Schroder were able to open up negotiations in February. However, the entire situation hasn’t changed a bit. One thing stands for sure. NBA teams are willing to pay a massive price for the Lakers player.

Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN reported that the price to extend Schroder is pretty high.

“The Lakers are interesting because I think the Lakers are looking a little bit down the road too at their salary structure,” Wojnarowski said on his podcast. “Dennis Schroder they’ve got to pay him this offseason. It’s going to cost well over $20 million a year to keep him.”

NBA teams would give a massive price for the Lakers player

Does Schroder deserve a big deal? LA is 12-2 in games that Schroder and LeBron James playe but Anthony Davis has been sidelined. Other NBA teams would have given Schroder $20 million per year. Los Angeles has ways to keep Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Kyle Kuzma on the roster. They will probably work on a deal for Schroder before the season is over. Letting him go in free agency isn’t really a good option.

The NBA trade deadline is closing and LA may make a move. Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers play smart with their money in order to keep players they need.

“I do think they would like to free up some of that money they owe down the line to put themselves in position to keep the guys they have there,” Wojnarowski said. “I think that’s kind of at the center of some of their talks here around the trade deadline.”

Schroder, Alex Caruso, and Talen Horton-Tucker can enter the open market in the offseason. They have become key players in 2021 and they are pretty young. LA should keep them all. However, this will cost a lot of money.

Schroder would love to be Laker. He has been talking about this for quite some time.

“I want to be a Laker for a long time,” Schroder told reporters Thursday, via Bleacher Report. “… I just want it to be fair.”
