Lawrence Guy Contract: Reported Details Of New Deal With Patriots

Lawrence Guy signed a new deal with the New England Patriots. This is one of the many moves New England made in the past couple of weeks. Head coach Bill Belichick shocked everyone with his shopping spree. As you may be guessing, he is not even done yet. The Patriots head coach has yet to sign other players. It’s a big offseason for the Patriots. They are rebuilding the roster and honestly, this team looks much better than the team Belichick had in 2020. The Patriots missed the playoffs in 2020. What does that mean? Coach B won’t go through the same again.

Guy is the most recent player to sign a deal with the Patriots. The veteran received a straight forward contract. Guy was a key part of the Patriots’ front seven. Many NFL teams showed interest in his service. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wanted to get him and pair the defensive lineman with Tom Brady. The Miami Dolphins had similar plan. Well, Belichick signed his veteran and he won’t go anywhere now.

Mike Reiss from ESPN shared additional info on Guy’s new contract Friday morning. The value of his new deal goes as high as $24 million.

Lawrence Guy signs a manageable deal with the Patriots

This is a really manageable cap hit for the team. Belichick has left himself with enough wiggles room despite his shopping spree. According to cap experts, the Patriots have about $10 million in cap space after Guy’s deal.

Guy is 31; he has been part of the Patriots since 62. He played 62 games with the team. Belichick is boosting his roster following a disappointing 2020 season. Keeping Guy around was a must at this point. He will join Henry Anderson, Matt Judon, Kyle Van Noy, Montravius Adams, Raekwon McMillan, and LaRoy Reynolds.

The Patriots got a talented player and they are ready to start off the new season. 2021 will be different than 2020 and players have enough motivation to make the playoffs.
