Patriots Have Met With Dynamic WR ‘Multiple Times’ Ahead of NFL Draft

The New England Patriots are looking forward to get Clemson wide receiver Amari Rodgers. According to recent sources, the Patriots have met with the dynamic 21-year-old WR on multiple occasions.

Rodgers spoke with Jim McBride from the Boston Globe. He measures at 5-10, 210 points as confirmed by Sports Reference. The wideout told McBride that he has a “connection” with the tea.

“Because he kind of reminds me of (Clemson) coach (Dabo) Swinney as far as discipline,” Rodgers told McBride. “Very hard and very focused and stuff like that. I feel like the Patriots and Clemson kind of relate to each other, so I feel like I would fit very well in the Patriots organization.”

McBride said the Patriots watched Rodgers at the Senior Bowl. He was one of the best performers on the field. The young wideout said he’d met with Patriots receivers coach Mick Lombardi.

“I actually just interviewed with the Patriots’ receivers coach [Mick Lombardi] two days ago,” Rodgers said in the interview with McBride. “I had a FaceTime interview with him … It went great, he’s a great guy.”

NFL analysts would agree that Rodgers is an exciting prospect. His skills provide an instant upgrade on one of the team’s biggest concern.

Some would compare Rodgers to former Carolina Panthers talent Steve Smith. They have a similar size, toughness, and ability to turn things into great performance after the catch.

Patriots met with the dynamic WR for a reason

Evan Lazar from CLNS discussed Rodgers’ skills at the line of scrimmate and his running back-like athleticism. Rodgers has ability to create yards after the catch.

Lazar imagined Rodgers as a Z receiver complimenting a true X to make a dynamic receiver combo.

What about Jakobi Meyers? He was brilliant in 2020 and finished the season with 59 receptions for 729 yards. Meyers may be the X, but we won’t really say much about it.

Getting a player like the Chicago Bears’ Allen Robinson, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Chris Godwin, the Detroit Lions’ Kenny Golladay, or even the Tennessee Titans’ Corey Davis is a more attractive option for the role with Meyers as a No.3 option.
