Patriots’ Julian Edelman Delivers Powerful Message For Meyers Leonard

New England Patriots wideout Julian Edelman took notice of the comments Miami Heat center Meyers Leonard made recently. Leonard found himself in big trouble for splashing an anti-Semitic slur in a Twitch live stream. Well, Edelman is here to teach him a lesson.

The 2018 Super Bowl MVP took to his Twitter account to deliver a message for Leonard. According to Edelman, Leonard wasn’t deliberately hateful when he used the slur. However, he does know that his ignorance actually triggered the problem.

“So, we’ve never met, I hope we can one day soon. I’m sure you’ve been getting lots of criticism form whas you said. Not trying to add to that, I just want to offer some perspective. I get the sense that you didn’t use that word out of hate, more out of ignorance,” Edelman wrote. “Most likely, you weren’t trying to hurt anyone or even profile Jews in your comment. That’s what makes it so destructive. When someone intends to be hateful, it’s usually met with great resistance. Casual ignorance is harder to combat and has greater reach, especially when you commend great influence. Hate is like a virus. Even accidentally, it can rapidly spread.”

Edelman even offered to visit Leonard in Miami to discuss the situation. He also invited Leonard to a Shabbat dinner with some friends.

Of course, Leonard apologized publicly for using the word he used. But, some people are really disgusted with the incident and the Heat player will have to bear the consequences of his actions.

Things like this never go unnoticed. Miami announced last night that Leonard will stay away from the team indefinitely while the league investigates the incident. Will this incident affect Leonard’s NBA career? One thing stands for sure. Leonard will have to learn his lesson and do some good thinking.

Edelman has done great job with his advocacy for Jewish groups in the past. He is probably the best person to advise Leonard and help him find the right track. Fans and players will always remember Leonard’s slur, and this will haunt him forever.
