Patriots Signing Montravius Adams In Third Free Agent D-Line Addition

The New England Patriots are adding a third free agent to the defensive line. Head coach Bill Belichick strengthened the defensive line and Montravius Adams is his latest addition.

The Patriots agreed to terms with Adams and he will sign a one-year deal worth $2.5 million. Adams’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed the information.

Adams spent the last four years with the Green Bay Packers. The team selected him in the third round out of Auburn in 2017. Adams measures at 6-foot-4, 304 pounds. He was an excellent run stuffer for the Packers and got an above-average 74.2 run defense grade from Pro Football Focus this past season. However, his season ended after Week 8 as he sustained a toe injury.

Patriots sign third free agent

The 26-year-old is the third free agent D-lineman to join the Patriots this week. He joins Davon Godchaux and Henry Anderson. Godchaux and Anderson do a great job in run defense and this was a big problem for the Patriots defense in 2020.

Belichick made several big moves to strengthen his front seven. He signed outside linebackers Matt Judon and signed Kyle Van Nou. D-end Deatrich Wise and D-tackle Carl Davis earned their spots on the Patriots’ roster, too. The Patriots will probably have linebacker Dont’a Hightower back on the field. He opted-out of the 2020 season and plans to return to New England this year.

Defensive tackle Lawrence Guy is one of the top internal free agents in New England. He remained unsigned. Adam Butler joined the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday.

The Patriots addressed several major issues on offense and added pass-catchers Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. Offensive tackle Trent Brown, center Ted Karras and defensive back Jalen Mills are the cherry on top.

Most NFL experts predicted an aggressive offseason for the Patriots and they were absolutely right. Belichick signed a group of talented players and re-signed Cam Newton. The Patriots got two top tight ends and Ryan Izzo had to go. Patrick Chung announced his retirement. New England will enter the new season without some of its players.
