Report: Dennis Schroder is Expected to Get ‘Well Over $20 million a Year’ in Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers signed several players in the offseason and most of them perform at high level. General manager Rob Pelinka brought Dennis Schroder and he will have to make a decision on his free agency. The guard fits well in Frank Vogel’s winning formula. But, maybe they will have to part ways.

If the Lakers want to keep Schroder in Los Angeles past this season, they will have to give him a lot of money.

Adrian Wojnarowski revealed Schroder’s expected yearly salary. His most recent report was pretty shocking.

“The Lakers are interesting because I think the Lakers are looking a little bit down the road too at their salary structure,” said Adrian Wojnarowski on his podcast. “Dennis Schroder they’ve got to pay him this offseason. It’s going to cost well over $20 million a year to keep him.”

Dennis Schroder may not leave LA in free agency

The NBA insider believes that every move LA makes ahead of the deadline is related to Schroder’s impending free agency. Will they let him go? Will Pelinka offer him a nice extension?

“I do think they would like to free up some of that money they owe down the line to put themselves in position to keep the guys they have there,” said Wojnarowski. “I think that’s kind of at the center of some of their talks here around the trade deadline.”

In his first season as a Laker, the German native is averaging 14.6 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game. Schroder has shown great dominance on the defensive side of the ball. His performance in the playoffs will have a big say in the offseason. Vogel and Pelinka will observe Schroder’s performance in order to make the right decision on his future with the team.

For now, Lakers players look really good on the floor. They are winning games despite Anthony Davis’ absence. The big man will miss at least a couple of weeks, but LA players have found the right rhythm. Having him back would only make things easier for everyone, including LeBron James. The four-time NBA champion is having an MVP performance.
