Report: Patriots Trade for QB ‘Not off the Table’

The New England Patriots signed veteran quarterback Cam Newton to a one-year deal. However, this won’t change the Patriots from pulling a trade for a top QB. Will Newton be the Patriots starting quarterback in 2021?

An NFL insider warned those who are interested not to take a trade deal for former Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo off the table.

Diana Russini talked to Mike Greenberg from Get Up about the situation.

“Just recently I was talking to somebody in the league who I really trust…He said, ‘Do not take the Jimmy Garoppolo trade off the table,’” Russini explained.

“That is something New England is still sniffing out. Bill [Belichick] doesn’t like to put his cards out on the table, so most think, ‘Oh well, if we all know about that, that probably won’t happen.’ But there is definitely a tone in the league that it could still go down.”

We have already heard similar rumors. Some analysts claim that Garoppolo is Bill Belichick’s No. 1 option. But, the Newton signing changed everything. One thing stands for sure. Some experts question Newton’s ability to lead the Patriots’ offense. The 2015 NFL MVP is as strong as he has ever been.

Patriots may not trade for the veteran QB

Do the Patriots really need Garoppolo?

In free agency, New England has already addressed the offense. They re-signed David Andrews and traded for Trent Brown. The team also brought back Ted Karras. These signings will help to dull the departure of Joe Thuney.

The Patriots really struggled with the receiving and tight end units. Head coach Belichick signed Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne, Jonnu Smith, and Hunter Henry to solve the problem. New England also struggled on the defensive side of the ball.

The defense looks good this year. Belichick re-signed Lawrence Guy and Deatrich Wise Jr. He added Davon Godchaux, Harry Anderson, and Montravious Adams. Dont’a Hightower is back and Raekwon McMillan joined the team at the right time.

When it comes to pass rushes, Belichick signed Matthew Judon and Kyle Van Noy. Chase Winovich and Josh Uche look much better.
