Cam Newton Makes Controversial Decision to Help Prepare for 2021 Season

New England Patriots veteran quarterback Cam Newton made a move ahead of the 2021 NFL season and it’s huge. We all know that Newton likes to march to the beat of his own drums. The same goes to the decision he makes on and off the field.

That’s exactly what happened Monday. Mike Reiss from ESPN reported that Newton was one of the few Patriots players to arrive at the team facility today. They had voluntary workouts and Newton didn’t want to miss a beat.

The NFLPA and other NFL teams released a statement suggesting that “many” won’t attend these workouts because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Newton has yet to talk to media members about his on-field presence.

Cam Newton is ready for 2021

2020 wasn’t really good for the quarterback. He didn’t have a proper preseason as the team signed him in late June. Head coach Bill Belichick just threw him in the fire. Well, Newton did compete with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for the starting position. He got the job and did an excellent thing in the first few weeks. However, he got COVID-19 and his performance took a different turn. Newton lacked strong weapons and his passing game was bad. Let’s just say 2020 wasn’t his best season.

Newton spent an entire season with the Patriots and he will have a proper preseason. This is probably one of the reasons he had to join his teammates for the first workout at the facility. The 2015 NFL MVP worked with Josh McDaniels for a year and he will take part in Patriots’ training camp. Belichick brought a lot of valuable players to New England and packed the roster with great talent. Newton will work with a strong group of pass catchers.

The quarterback didn’t sign with the Patriots for the money. He won’t get the best salary. However, he will also get this $100,000 bonus for attending voluntary workouts. This bonus won’t change his life, but it sure means a thing.

Trent Brown will earn $500,000 to attend voluntary workouts. He will have a chance to work with Newton and get to know his style.
