Deion Branch Optimistic About Cam Newton Ahead Of 2021 NFL Season

The New England Patriots brought veteran quarterback Cam Newton back for another season and he will probably start games in the upcoming 2021 season. The 2015 NFL MVP didn’t have much success this past season. He struggled on the field but it wasn’t his fault. He joined the team right before the start of the new season. He didn’t have much time to get ready. Bill Belichick made him compete with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. He threw him in the fire and Newton also got COVID. The veteran had to miss some time and the rest is history.

Truth is, Newton didn’t have enough weapons to score. The Patriots struggled on both ends of the ball. Their offense made so many mistakes. The defense?

Newton was a shell of his past self in his debut with the Patriots. He threw more interceptions than touchdown passes. New England had a sub-.500 record for the very first time since 2000.

Cam Newton to perform better in 2021

The veteran has a chance to offer a better performance in 2021. Deion Branch has something to say about it. He knows the Patriots and looks forward to an improved Newton in 2021. According to him, even a modest production from Newton would put the Patriots straight in the playoffs.

“Given the offseason (he’ll have), I think we’ll see a better Cam,” Branch said at the Patriots’ season-ticket member draft preview, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “Everybody is always talking about the 2015 [MVP] Cam Newton, but I’d like to go back to just the 2018 (version) — 67.9% passing, 24 TDs, 13 interceptions. If they can get that type of performance, I think this will be a great year.”

New England has a better offense this season. They will take the pressure off Newton. Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry will lead the Patriots next season. Belichick got the best tight ends and also signed some great running backs. Newton should probably take a “game manager” approach.

Belichick has to make a decision on his status. Will Newton be the Patriots starting quarterback?
