Huge Patriots Texans Trade Proposal Has New England Moving Up

Head coach Bill Belichick has been part of the New England Patriots for quite some time, and the team made 82 draft-day trades during this period. According to at least one expert, the Patriots will work with the Houston Texans for another trade. Why not?

Anthony Wood of Sports Illustrated has a trade proposal for both teams. According to him, the Patriots will trade up to the 67th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. They will have to give up on their 96th, 120th, 122nd, and 139th pick.

So, this goes all the way to three fourth-round picks and a fifth in an exchange for a third-round selection. Belichick will have to part ways with many draft assets.

Patriots and Texans can pull out a trade deal

How is this deal even possible? The Patriots have a strong connection with Houston Texas general manager Nick Caserio. He was the Patriots director of player personnel, remember?

“Texans GM Nick Caserio could put his New England ties to good use here, picking up three extra picks while the Patriots could jump back into the third round. This trade would involve the 67th pick going to New England in exchange for the 96th, 120th, 122nd, and 139th heading in the opposite direction. Wishful thinking? Absolutely. But never say never when it comes to the draft. Why you do it: More darts. More rolls of the dice. This is an inexact science, so take as many shots as possible. And, of course, Nick and Bill on the phone makes so much sense.”

If Belichick makes this move, it will involve a player he and his staff like. He may get a quarterback for those four picks.

Belichick hasn’t really shown that he values signal-callers at the same clip as NFL fans and the media. But, if he thinks his quarterback of the future is available at 67, Belichick will make a move.

New England also has the 46th selection. If the team keeps No.15, the Patriots can get three picks within the first 70 picks in the upcoming draft.
