Lakers Break Silence on Andre Drummond Future

The Los Angeles Lakers brought Andre Drummond in town for a reason, and some analysts didn’t really make a bright prediction on his future with the team. The same analysts say that Drummond is a short-term rental for the Lakers.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel discussed the rumors, suggesting that the franchise wants to keep the big man on the roster for the foreseeable future.

“Well, that’s certainly what we’re hopeful for [to keep Drummond],” Vogel said during a recent press conference. “This summer will play out and we’ll let that happen when it happens. We want him to help us during this championship run this season, but we’re hopeful that he’s a Laker for a long time to come. That’s what we’re envisioning. We think he’s going to be a key piece for us both in the short-term and the long-term.”

Lakers want Andre Drummond on the future roster

Drummond signed a one-year contract with the team and he is getting the veteran minimum. He will enter free agency this offseason and LA doesn’t have Drummond’s Bird Rights. The front office will probably make a decent deal for the player. Well, Drummond may ask for a big deal once he becomes free agent.

The Lakers have to try really hard to put the big man on the roster for a while. The big man talked about this and his comments are just right.

“I’m just focused on wearing this Lakers jersey right now,” Drummond said. “When the time comes for the next decision, we’ll cross that bridge, but right now my main focus is on helping this team win as many games as possible.”

Drummond didn’t have the best debut with the Lakers. He lost a toenail in the first quarter of the game. The big man returned to the game Vogel ruled him out. The best rebounder in the NBA hit just one rebound and finished the night with four points and two assists.

“I didn’t really think anything of it,” Drummond explained. “I came back in the second quarter and it was hurting a little bit more. And then after halftime, I finally took my sock off to look and my whole toenail was gone. So, it was just all bad from there. I couldn’t walk or run. So I just told Coach [Frank Vogel] to take me out.”

Drummond isn’t really worried about his injury. He couldn’t walk or run. Vogel had to take him out of the game.
