Lakers’ Jeanie Buss Shares Story of How LeBron James Motivated Her

The Los Angeles Lakers brought a big name in order to win a championship. Team owner Jeanie Buss and Magic Johnson did their best to bring LeBron James to the roster. The four-time NBA champion signed with the Lakers and it was the best move in his career. LeBron’s debut with the Lakers was a failure, but he helped the team win a title last season. Players entered the NBA bubble with one goal. Win a championship. The king of basketball won his championship.

Bringing LeBron to LA was a good move for the franchise. They also signed Anthony Davis and a bunch of other veterans. LeBron gave everyone a motivation to improve.

Jeanie Buss respects LeBron James

During her appearance on Robert Horry’s podcast, Buss talked about one particular conversation she had with LeBron in the first season. This conversation motivated Buss to help LeBron get the team back to the top of the league.

“The first time I had dinner with him in his first season, he said he knew obviously about the Lakers growing up and everything, (but) he said he did a really deep dive into what the Lakers were all about and how my dad built the team and built the business, and he said ‘you know, it’s really such a compliment to you that your dad put you in charge. It was something that he really cared about… Make sure you keep it that way.’ Kind of motivation to remind me of how great in the 32 years that my dad owned and ran the team, they only missed the playoffs twice.

“And here we were going on five, six years without being in the playoffs. It was really not the Laker basketball that Dr. Buss had envisioned when he left the team in a trust to the family.”

The Lakers built the roster around LeBron. They have a superteam. LeBron and AD are out due to injuries but Frank Vogel has everything under control. Andre Drummond joined the team with one goal. To help them win. He has to recover first.
