Massive Trade Proposal Has Patriots Landing Top 4 Pick

The 2021 NFL Draft is right behind the corner, and teams are getting ready for the big show. NFL experts have made some predictions about the upcoming moves. Andrew Callahan from the Boston Herald has a great trade proposal for the Patriots, and he believes the team will be landing a top draft pick.

Callahan said the Patriots may go multiple routes with their draft spot and the current assets. There’s one important deal for the team and he said the Patriots should part ways with Stephon Gilmore. Yes, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year will have to go. This may be the only way for head coach Bill Belichick to take the No.4 pick.

Here’s what he suggests:

The Patriots get the 4th overall and the Falcons get the team’s 15th overall pick, the 46th pick, a 2022 first-round pick, and of course, Gilmore. It is a big trade for the Patriots but they are looking for the next franchise quarterback, so it’s worth the effort.

Callahan has good theory for the Patriots and their landing of a top pick

“So what should it take to move up? More or less, what San Francisco surrendered.” Callahan referred to the trade the San Francisco 49ers agreed to with the Miami Dolphins a couple of weeks ago. They went from the No. 12 pick to No. 3.

San Francisco sent the 12th pick, a 2022 third-rounder, and first-round picks from 2022 and 2023 to get Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or Mac Jones.

Callahan has the perfect theory for the Patriots. He offered a detailed explanation for the moves.

“Any trade talks with the Falcons will begin with the baseline the 49ers established, though the math has changed on those negotiations. Because of the 49ers’ jump, only two of the five best quarterbacks will be available at No. 4, and the number of Atlanta’s potential trade partners has come down, with San Francisco and Carolina now out of the mix. Having lost that leverage, the Pats should be able to use Gilmore, their best trade chip, in a package of picks to successfully trade up, if they so desire. The only hurdle will be the Falcons fitting Gilmore’s $7.36 million cap hit on their crunched 2021 books and striking a long-term deal to secure him for years to come.”

Belichick has to find the quarterback of the future. He signed Cam Newton to a one-year deal, but the 2015 NFL MVP won’t stay forever.
