NFL Analyst Proposes Significant Browns Patriots Trade

The New England Patriots will probably trade up and down the 2021 NFL Draft. They will have to find the right trade partners. New England enters the upcoming draft with the No.15 overall. But, head coach Bill Belichick needs a quarterback and all the good prospects will be gone by the time he gets to choose his next signal-caller. There’s enough room for a trade and the Patriots will make a move. According to recent sources, the Patriots will join forces with the Cleveland Browns for a potential trade deal.

There’s two weeks remaining before the upcoming draft. NFL analysts have proposed multiple deals for each organization. One analyst predicted a potential trade between Cleveland and the Patriots. This deal would work well for both sides.

Patriots and Browns to benefit from the trade deal

Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report released his 5 Trades NFL Teams Should Try to Execute Before the 2021 Draft. He also worked on a trade proposal for the Browns and Patriots.

In the proposal, Davenport believes the Patriots would trade veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore to Cleveland for some draft picks. According to Davenport, Cleveland has the payroll and the power to bring Gilmore in the fold. I mean, he is a four-time Pro Bowler.

“The Browns have the cap flexibility to fit Gilmore’s deal on the payroll along with nine picks in the 2021 draft, including an extra pick on Day 2,” Davenport wrote. “Package that spare third-rounder with another middle-round pick in 2021 or 2022, and it’s a deal that makes considerable sense for both teams.”

Gilmore didn’t have the best performance in 2020. He won the Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. The veteran saw action in 11 games and finished the season with one interception and three passes defended. In other words, he hit the lowest marks in his career.

Gilmore enters the final year of his contract. The Patriots owe him over $16 million this year. New England can mitigate some of this cap hit by releasing or trading the veteran in the next few weeks.

Would Belichick send Gilmore to the Browns for a couple of mid-round picks?
