Patriots Could Be a Suitor for Future Hall-of-Famer

The New England Patriots have been linked to several players. Head coach Bill Belichick signed a lot of valuable players to his 2021 roster. He improved both the offense and the defense, but there is still room for improvement. According to recent sources, the Patriots may be a suitor for a future Hall-of Famer.

Super Bowl champion Richard Sherman has yet to find a home in the NFL. He is a future Hall-of-Famer, 5-time Pro Bowler, and 3-time All-Pro. Is he a good option for the Patriots? The team still has some issues at corner.

In his interview with Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports, Sherman said he wouldn’t re-sign with the San Francisco 49ers. But, he would love to do that.

Sherman is focused on the business aspect of the situation.

In an interview on the Cris Collinsworth podcast with Sherman, the latter said he wouldn’t predict to sign with anyone until the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.

“Well, apparently we got to wait ’til the draft happens before anything else shakes out, because everybody has their hopes and dreams in the draft, which is understandable,” said Sherman. “You turn 33, and then it’s like, ‘We’ll wait until we get a young pup; and if we can’t get a young pup, we’ll take an old fool.’ So that’s where we’re sitting.”

Sherman is 33. He is entering the 11th season in the NFL. Yes, he is one of the best cornerbacks in his class. New England has already shown interest in signing him.

Andy Hart from Patriots.com says the Seattle Seahawks placed the veteran on the trade block and the Patriots had shown interest. New England signed Stephon Gilmore to a free-agent contract to plug their need for a top corner.

The Seahawks cut Sherman in 2018 and he inked a three-year deal with the 49ers. It was a 39 million deal. New England had Gilmore and he won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2019. The veteran made the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his great career.

Sherman was great in San Francisco and helped them make the Super Bowl. He played for the Vince Lombardi trophy for the third time in his career.
