Report: Bill Belichick Spoke With 3 Other Teams In 2018

The New England Patriots have made a lot of moves in the past couple of years. But, head coach Bill Belichick was up to something in 2018, too.

Tom Brady left the team last season and signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The veteran quarterback didn’t reach an agreement with the team and decided to leave the organization after two decades.

Brady is gone, but coach Belichick doesn’t seem to be going anywhere in the near future.

Seth Wickersham from ESPN reported that Belichick had some conversations with other NFL teams. Moreover, he talked to three other teams in the 2018 offseason.

The Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2017 season. Several reports suggested that there was a conflict within the organization. The relationship between Brady and Belichick was tense. Coach B didn’t like the idea of trading Jimmy Garoppolo in October that year.

That year, Belichick talked to the New York Giants and two other NFL teams about their head coaching position. The Miami Dolphins and Washington attracted the attention of the Patriots head coach.

“There were some reports that came out at the time that the Giants were looking at him,” Wickersham said on a podcast with Missouri journalism student Harrison Vapnek. “I think he talked to the Washington Football Team and the [Miami] Dolphins about their openings. It was unclear whether he was interested or not, but he was still talking to them.”

Bill Belichick and the Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2018

These conversations didn’t provide any results. The Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2018. TB12 left the team in 2019 and the Patriots finished the season with a 7-9 record. Brady led his new team to the Super Bowl and ended up winning it.

Belichick is ready to make the playoffs in 2021. He was really aggressive in free agency and he is working really hard on the draft process. The Patriots will enter the 2021 NFL Draft with a few major needs. They may get a quarterback or a few pass catchers.
