Report: Jason McCourty, Giants Showing ‘Mutual Interest’

Jason McCourty decided to test the open market and he may be making his way to the New York Giants.

The McCourty twin is available on the open market. The veteran defensive back has attracted the attention of many NFL teams. Guess who may snatch him… The New York Giants. Former Patriots assistant Joe Judge leads the Giants and he likes McCourty. The information was confirmed by Ryan Dunleavy from The New York Post. Dunleavy reported that the McCourty twin and NY have shown “mutual interest.” However, the Giants aren’t the only suitor for the veteran.

Judge will enter his second season as a head coach with the Giants.

Jason McCourty to join the Giants

McCourty spent the last three years with the Patriots. He helped the Patriots win a Super Bowl in his first season with the team. The veteran re-signed a two-year deal with the team in 2019. He was set to get $10 million and has now become an unrestricted free agent.

McCourty talked about his future plans and his future destination. He had an interview earlier this week. Reuniting with the Patriots is still an option.

“Yeah, this year in free agency has been different, obviously with the cap and everything as a result of 2020,” McCourty said. “I just want to be somewhere I’m wanted and (have) an opportunity to compete and help the guys around me. As an older player now, I really look forward and love being able to mentor the younger guys and be able to kind of help them grow, as well as going out there competing and trying to win games.

“So wherever that may be, I’m going to be excited. This will be Year 13, so each year, you’re closer to the end. This could be it. I’m just so excited to get somewhere and play football.”

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick brought a lot of new players to the roster. He was really active in the first two weeks of free agency. Matt Judon, Hunter Henry, and Jonnu Smith joined the team. Belichick also re-signed James White, David Andrews, and Lawrence Guy.

McCourty has played 44 games with 33 starts since joining the Patriots. He played in all 16 games this past season.
