Robert Kraft Gives Honest Assessment Of Patriots Drafting

The New England Patriots took a different approach this offseason. Head coach Bill Belichick made multiple signings in the first days of free agency. He brought players like Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry. 2021 will be an excellent season for the Patriots. The roster is packed with a lot of great players. Team owner Robert Kraft discussed Patriots drafting and his assessment is correct.

The NFL draft has always been a head-scratcher for the Patriots head coach. Kraft is well aware of the situation in New England.

Robert Kraft is honest about Patriots drafting

In his conversation with the media, Kraft said the Patriots haven’t done “the greatest job” in the past few years. However, Kraft is optimistic that the team will turn the corner in the upcoming draft.

“I don’t feel we’ve done the greatest job the last few years…” the Patriots owner said. “I’ve seen a different approach this year.”

The Patriots have made only five first-round picks since 2013. However, the players Belichick signed struggled to make an impact to the game. NFL coaches struggle to find contributors in the middle and late rounds. Belichick faced similar obstacles.

2020 was one of those years. The Patriots finished the season with 7-9 record. This is the team’s worst record since 2000.

The Patriots have the 15th overall pick in the upcoming draft. This is their highest selection since 2008. Belichick has yet to find his franchise quarterback. He offered Cam Newton a one-year deal and this is second chance for the 2015 NFL MVP. Belichick likes the veteran quarterback and he is willing to give him another shot.

The Patriots have to address other needs. They struggled in 2020 and the receiving unit was an issue for the team. Belichick brought Nelson Agholor to New England and he should provide an excellent boost to the team.

Kraft doesn’t want the team’s drafting troubles to continue in 2021. Will Belichick change his approach later this month?
