Stephon Gilmore Shares Honest Admission On Patriots Future

The New England Patriots have just released veteran wideout Julian Edelman. They have several veterans on the roster. Head coach Bill Belichick brought a lot of new names to New England. Stephon Gilmore is still part of the Patriots roster, and he is pretty honest about his future with the team.

One thing stands for sure. Gilmore can’t control his NFL future. If you ask him, he would stay with the Patriots. For good.

Gilmore has been part of pretty much every rumor in the offseason. Many analysts believe that the Patriots would trade the veteran cornerback to get new players.

Stephon Gilmore would love to be part of the Patriots future

The 31-year-old is entering the final year of his five-year contract with the Patriots. He should get $15.8 million against the cap for the upcoming 2021 season. Let’s not forget that Gilmore is coming off a terrible injury. He suffered a torn quad late in the 2020 season.

New England may try to send Gilmore somewhere else. If he was the one making the decision, Gilmore would stay with the Patriots for the remainder of his career.

“That stuff will play out as it will,” he said, via BostonGlobe.com. “I just try to take it day by day, and that’s all I can do. … You’ve got to leave it in their hands. Of course, I know what type of player I am, what type of person I am. I let everything lay on its own.”

If Gilmore tries to stay, he will have to accept a restructured contract. New England wants more cap space and Gilmore’s contract may be an obstacle in the way.

The veteran cornerback made a step back in 2020, but he can definitely be a Pro-Bowler in 2021.

The only thing we can do right now is wait and see what happens next. Will Belichick move on from his veteran? Will he bring someone else as a replacement? There are so many options for the team at the moment. Belichick will make the right decision for his team.
